Theoretical Laodiceans
For most of my life i have assumed that the sin of the Laodiceans was purely Pride. They believe that they are better than other churches because of their money and knowledge and generally having more of everything that would seem to make the church function well. My understanding was that the miserableness of this church was rooted purely in the blindness ie pride.
Recently, (admitedly through personal experience extrapolated) I have come to believe that, that pride is mixed with a massive dose of shame. The theory is that the Laodicean church is miserable and to be pitied (not simply because of its blindness) but because it is stuck in its lukewarmness.
The church is stuck in the middle of worldliness and Godliness. The church is stuck doing good things but not obedient things.
I believe that the Laodicean church is pitiable because despite being handed everything on a silver platter, we are unable to step into our burning destinies because we are held back by cold hard cash. Despite having money, and training and influence i am unable to walk in my destiny. This causes deep shame. It causes deep shame in the same way that an elderly man wearing diapers feels shame or the way an Alzheimers patent struggles in vain to remember something that they know they should be able to. A feeling that everything that makes them worthwhile as a person is slipping away and becoming impotent.
The ones who seem to feel fulfilled in their walks seem to fall into three categories;
Those who are walking in their destinies in third world countries
Those whose destiny happens to line up with the life that they are already pursuing (making and donating money)
Those who are still fully under the illusion that they are rich and increased in goods and in need of nothing
The rest are stuck in the lukewarm middle. Some of them are under a half hearted lie they tell themselves that the life they are living is really the life God wants for them. Some of them fully admit that they are stuck but feel unable to do anything about it because of lack of funds, or revelation, or simply courage.
As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.
Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.
